The winning Architectus submission for the new Student Union Building for the University of Canterbury, NZ.
The new University of Canterbury Students’ Association (UCSA) building will provide a vibrant hub for student life and activities, and become a pivotal part of the UC student experience.
Due to open in 2019, the new UCSA building will include student welfare and advocacy spaces, an outdoor amphitheatre overlooking the Ōtakaro Avon River, as well as club, meeting, hospitality, office and event spaces.
A key feature of the UCSA building will be the new Ngaio Marsh Theatre and Performance Centre, a flexible space capable of hosting 300 people seated or 1,000 people standing. It will be used for student performances and concerts, and provide a central space that the UCSA’s 130 affiliated clubs and societies can use for meetings and events.
The design concept was led by Patrick Clifford and Carsten Auer. My role was to complete the 3Dimensional aspects of the competition entry. This involved building the 3D model, developing the concept alongside the team and producing the 3D visualisations for the competition submission.
